What do YOU want?

The City and Borough of Sitka and the Sitka Economic Development Association are considering marine services-related development at their Sawmill Cove Industrial Park.

Several projects are being investigated for feasibility at the 75-acre waterfront industrial center located about five miles southeast of downtown Sitka. Projects for consideration include a deep water bulkhead dock, a boat haul out facility, and a moorage area for large vessels.

We are looking for input from boat owners or others who decide where vessels are to be moored and/or hauled out for maintenance or repairs. We would like your input to help us understand the demand for the boat haul out and large vessel moorage developments, and how best to configure them.

Even if your vessel does not currently use Sitka for these kinds of services, your opinions will be valuable to this study.

Welcome to the Sitka Marine Industries website.

This is a public service of the Sitka Economic Development Association (SEDA) in pursuit of our goal to strengthen the local marine industries sector and make it a viable industry in our local economy. This website makes it easier for boat owners, users, suppliers and marine contractors to find the services they need and thereby facilitate direct contact and exchange of information. It is also designed to allow local marine businesses to market their products and services not only to Sitka clientle but to the rest of Alaska and the lower 48.

SEDA also strives to gather information about our boat and fishing industry to help businesses -- both start-up and existing -- plan and execute a long-range strategy for growth and expansion. We will soon publish on this website the results of the Sitka Marine Industries survey we conducted in Fall 2007. The survey is part of the study conducted by SEDA and the Sawmill Cove Industrial Park Board of Directors to learn more about the future needs of boat owners for haul out and marine repair services in Sitka.
